How Your Plan Works – Pharmacy

Your benefit plan includes Part D prescription drugs with convenient pharmacy options to choose from. You have the option to choose from a Preferred Kaiser Permanente pharmacy or from a Standard Network Pharmacy that includes most major retailers, like CVS, Costco, Kroger, and more.

Preferred pharmacies:

  • Includes Kaiser Permanente Pharmacies, both retail and mail-order pharmacy.
  • You generally pay the lowest out-of-pocket costs.
  • Mail-order pharmacy program:
    • A great option for medications you take regularly, like cholesterol or blood pressure medication.
    • Mail-order service allows you to order an extended supply of up to 90-days.
  • You can conveniently order your prescription refills in the following ways:
    • Register and order online securely at kp.org/refill.
    • Call our mail-order service at 1-866-523-6059 (TTY 711), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Call the highlighted number listed on your prescription label and follow the prompts.
    • Be sure to select the mail delivery option when prompted.
    • Mail your prescription or refill request on a mail-order form available at any Kaiser Permanente network pharmacy.

Standard pharmacies:

  • Includes pharmacies available through the Optum Pharmacy Retail network. Access includes over 70,000 pharmacies nationwide, which includes Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Safeway, Costco, and other major retailers.
  • Optum logo on the member ID card.
  • You have higher out-of-pocket costs.
  • No mail-order pharmacy is available. You can fill prescriptions through Kaiser Permanente’s mail-order program.

Learn what drugs are covered.

Your plan utilizes the 2025 Kaiser Permanente Medicare Part D Formulary this is also known as the drug list. This tells you which Part D prescription drugs are covered under the Part D prescription benefit included in your Medicare PPO plan. The drug list also tells you if any rules restrict drug coverage.

Kaiser Permanente’s pharmacy network includes limited lower-cost, preferred pharmacies in Colorado. The lower costs advertised in our plan materials for these pharmacies may not be available at the pharmacy you use. For up-to-date information about our network pharmacies, including whether there are any lower-cost preferred pharmacies in your area, please call 1-800-476-2167 (TTY 711), seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. or consult the online pharmacy directory at kp.org/directory.
